Tokyo’s inquiries on purchasing Tomahawks back in 2013 were initially coolly received due to fears of aggravating China. However, Canadian CSC frigates and Australian Hobart-class destroyers are also planned to eventually deploy these long-range land attack weapons. So far, the United Kingdom has been the Tomahawk’s only foreign operator, employing them from Royal Navy submarines. There’s also a Block Vb with an advanced JMEWS warhead capable of bunker-busting penetrating strikes on underground missile silos and WMD facilities. The latest Block V model re-introduces anti-ship capability in a subvariant called the Block Va Maritime Strike Tomahawk, integrating a radar seeker that enables it to home in on moving ships. The Block IV model can now transmit video imagery while traveling to target, perform maneuvers to evade defenses while in transit, loiter overhead waiting for a signal to attack, and can be retargeted or instructed to abort the attack midflight-options that might reassure Japanese officials. While the Tomahawk isn’t as stealthy or fast as some modern successors, it’s been heavily improved over the years. These weapons approach their targets at a maximum speed of 567 miles per hour, usually skimming at an altitude of only 100-165 feet to delay visibility on radar. The front wheels are pneumatically driven independently, with a combined output of up to 2,590hp in the X version.Using a combination of inertial navigation and terrain contour-mapping, a TLAM can land within 10 meters of a designated target, or.1 meter if assisted with GPS. The rear wheels are powered by a wide-angle (144 degrees) 7.0-liter V10 engine that delivers up to 2,168hp. The SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo weighs just 1,658 lbs (752 kg) in its ultimate performance configuration, making it just slightly heavier than a current day Formula One race car. The car features a large air intake for engine cooling mounted on the hood, while active panels mounted above the front and rear fenders are constantly moving, via pneumatic assist, to create the optimal amount of aerodynamic downforce for braking assist and traction under acceleration. The driver views the instruments and communication system on a clear digital overlay on the graphene windshield. The Tomahawk’s transparent elements, including the cockpit and engine cover, are made from ultra-light graphene skins. The winning sketch came from Paul Hoste, a young designer who grew up playing Gran Turismo. The car’s extreme exterior look is the result of a FCA US internal design competition at FCA US for a futuristic (2035) interpretation of a high-performance Dodge. The range-topping SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo X boasts 2,590 (virtual) horsepower combined. The concept is offered in three powerful versions (S, GTS-R and X) which combine a futuristic hybrid powertrain with a wide-angle V10 and pneumatically driven front wheels. SRT has lifted the veils off the Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo, a single-seat hybrid concept that will be released exclusively in the Gran Turismo 6 video game.ĭesigned by the SRT (Street and Racing Technology) engineering team, the SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo is based on “a 20-year forward vision of existing and future potential technologies,” according to the automaker.
